This is the unique original Gouache painting by Oliver Frey.

With lightning speed, the Maoris fell upon the surprised Dutch sailors. In the fight that followed, the crew of the ship's boat were all killed.

Abel Tasman named the place of the massacre "Murderers' Bay" and, without setting foot in New Zealand, sailed off to discover the islands of Tonga.

This is the original artwork for illustration on p10 of Look and Learn issue no 856 (10 June 1978). Art is mounted and ready for framing. Professionally matted ready for framing.
